Fathom — Chart of Accounts

A fresh way for Accountants to organise their Chart of Accounts

Fathom users were stretching the boundaries of our platform and our users were wanting more advanced customisation than ever before.

Fathom is loved by over 10,000 organisations all over the world. One of our most highly requested features was the ability for users to create an extra layer of detail on their chart of accounts to give more control in their financial statements. We responded by overhauling the entire section and introducing an incredible level of customisation, but still with an easy-to-use sleek interface.

Dynamic grouping and hierarchy

One of the key goals of this project was to allow our users to restructure, rename & reorder their Chart of Accounts to their hearts content. A major feature in this release was the ability for customers to select accounts and group them under a common heading — By doing this, they are also tying concepts together to use across other parts of the app elegantly.

Restructuring quickly and effectively, even across large datasets

When designing this feature we had to accomodate for all different kinds of businesses. We worked tirelessly to make sure that the new interface was not only as performant as the previous interactions, but even more efficient for users to complete their goals as quickly as possible.

Keeping tabs on account movements

Since Fathom connects seamlessly to Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks & Excel data sources, we needed to make sure that our users could understand how their customisation’s in Fathom would be impacted by their source data system. We added a range of simple but helpful ‘status indictors’ to help educate users on where they had deviated from their source data classifications, but also where new accounts, or updates have occurred.

Helping our users tell more compelling stories with their Financials

After grouping & ordering their accounts, our users can now use their custom structure to easily customise the detail level they wish to show in their financial reporting.
